Books in this Series

What role ought religion play in a pluralistic, democratic society?

In what ways do faith traditions and theology shape politics?

What resources does religion provide for political conflict?

These are but a few of the questions that our series in religion and politics will seek to identify and probe for answers. For millennia, the questions that stand at the crossroad where religion and politics intersect have fascinated, bewildered, and challenged people of conscience. This bold, new series will address that intellectual territory.

Themes of interest include: Fundamentalism, Comparative Politics, International Affairs, Evangelicalism, The Christian Right, Political Mobilization, Religious Interest Groups, Clergy and Political Engagement, Religion and Political Theory, Religious Freedom and Constitutional Law, Toleration and Alternative Religious Traditions, Faith-Based Social Services, Islamic Politics in the United States, Jewish Politics in the United States, Catholic Politics in the United States, Religion and the Presidency, Biographies of Political/Religious Figures, Religion and Social Capital, Religion and Civil Society, Race, Religion, and Politics, Religious-Based Terrorism, Religious Identity and Political Obligation, Immigration and Toleration.

The human business of Politics does not exist in a religious vacuum, but in the case of formal inquiry, Religion and Politics is a relatively new field. Georgetown University Press welcomes proposals that can speak to the interdisciplinary and cross-pollinated nature of both topics in a variety of theoretical and methodological ways.
